and then to Abisko to watch the northern lights.

The aurora isn't like pigeons on Trafalgar square, it isn't always there. So I hope you have something else to do in Abisko besides hunting the aurora.

Hitchhiking as a cheap mode of transport?
I have seen people do that in Sweden, although I can't tell you how successful they have been, I haven't picked up anyone.

To be fair. There are no longer pigeons at Trafalgar, but you can get a glimpse of them sometimes at the roof tops. The same thing is with the aurora but less frequently ofc.

it's not exactly cheap to live or travel in sweden but i will try making it both simple and cheap. skavsta airport lies 100KM from stockholm so im shure there is buss to stockholm, public transportation is not very expensive but not cheap!

between stockholm and hudiksvall there is about 300km but you can take the buss there to, but you are probably gonna have to preeorder that one.

howerver now comes the tricky part abisko is in the top northen part of sweden and it's a long way, so 2 options fins someway to fly to kiruna and then take the buss there or find out if there goes busstours to go see the nothern lights howerver proposal 2 won't be cheap!

hope it helped a little but ask your friend if he can help you a bit!

You don't have to apologize. Posting in English is allowed.

Train tickets are generally cheap if you preorder them early. The earlier the better, several months is best. Always compare different departure times, weekdays, and different routes - the price can differ greatly.

Different companies operate different railway lines, but you can search, preorder and prepay tickets for almost any railway line (and almost any intercity bus line) in Sweden at http://www.sj.se . Stockholm and Kiruna are connected to the railway network. Probably Hudiksvall too.

Domestic airlines are also much cheaper if you book the tickets quite early, and if you compare departures. SAS (Scandinavian Airline Services) operates most domestic flights in Sweden, and you can search for flights at http://www.sas.se . I did a quick search at sas.se and it seems they fly between Stockholm Arlanda (number one airport in Sweden and airline hub) and Kiruna.

Bus is often cheaper than both train and airplane. You can search for bus connections at http://www.swebus.se/ and at http://www.sj.se . Still, try to book your tickets in advance. It's much cheaper that way.

I'd guess your best (cheap and decent) travel options are:
Skavsta -> Stockholm: Airport buses
Stockholm -> Hudiksvall: Probably either train or bus works fine
Hudiksvall -> Abisko: Don't know. Search for train and/or bus.
Kiruna -> Stockholm Central Station: Train.
Kiruna -> Stockholm Arlanda: Airplane. Great if you want to transfer to an international airline.
Stockholm Arlanda -> Stockholm city: Either airport bus to Stockholm, or local/regional commuter train or bus lines. Avoid the Arlanda Express train, it's expensive, and there are other trains. If you choose other trains, you have to go to the "Arlanda Central" station, and not the two Express stations.

Hello,
It is really nice that here is a topic in English, because I am not a native also.
I will go to trip to Sweden also.
But I bought a tour in Sweden country and understood that they will show me only the most popular places... So can you suggest something special, what locals visit in Sweden ?
