Soul-searching advice!

Would like to put a question out there about backpacking. I have put aside enough money to last me almost a year if I live modestly in India. But I am open to other destinations as well. I'm looking for a word of advice on a personal reason for going traveling. I'm wondering if India is generally the right place to travel to if I want to learn how to find some peace with myself since I can't seem to relax completely in various situations socially, or when it comes to tasks and achievements. I seem to lack proper direction in life given that the education I am just finishing doesn't hold much appeal to me anymore. Been basically trying to figure out what I should do with my life. Though I don't know that much about India I figured it would be a good experience. I'm almost thirty so I can't afford getting lost over there to the wind. Word of advice from the fellow soul searcher wouldn't hurt. Feel free to use Swedish.

My experience is that just visiting the country for a couple of months will give you a new perspective on life in general.
Though i did a light 10 day residential meditation course in Tibetan Buddhism upp in Mclead Ganj i really feel that it was the trip as a whole that made the big difference for me. I didnt do any volunteer work or such but the dignity and humanity of the Indian people in spite of poverty really made an inpact on me.

Long train rides without a seat reservation is really a humbling experience, having nothing to relly on other than the kindness of other people in order to be able to sit down or if you're lucky, even sleep.
It made me reflect on how I chose to live my life and what I can do for others.
