Malmo to London - any border checks ? (by train)

Hi there,

We're planning a trip to London from Malmo, by train and we're just wondering if, in light of recent border checks being re-introduced, there will be any checks until Brussels ?

Would it be the same case by car as well ? Schengen all the way ?

From what I'm reading checks have only been introduced when travelling back to Sweden. Is that correct ?

Thanks.

UK is not part of Schengen, so you need a passport to enter. There are also the passport checks coming back into Schengen-region as well, for the same reason.

You wold also potentially have to show the passport at the swedish border control.

As I re-read the question after I posted; no, there is probably not any checks before Brussels, but the train company may ask to see identification irrespetively of Schengen or not. The rest of the post covers the entry to UK though.

Hi Pasco,

Thanks for your reply.. yes, I know in Brussels u have to check-in for the Eurostar and show your passport...

But I was curious if anybody knows for a fact the answer to my question...

I'm just curious which way is Schengen and the EU union heading towards..

You say that potentially there might be ID checks between Sweden and Denmark ? Can you elaborate? From the research I've done, there are checks only when entering Sweden from Denmark, and not when exiting.

Thanks

Om du är intresserad av schengen så fråga för helvete inte om London som inte ligger i Schengen.

Before boarding a transport to the UK, the carrier will transfer passenger information to UK Border Force.

Before you board
Your ‘carrier’ (eg airline or transport provider) will check your passport and other travel documents. They’ll send this information electronically to Border Force.

It's like when travelling a low fare airline. You are not obliged by law to show a passport at checkin, but they can still refuse to allow you to travel per their own rules and regulations. Hence, the company providing transport could demand that non-citizens show their passport. Also, the only ID valid outside of your own country is your passport, so it is still a good idea to bring it, even though it is technically not required. The best thing with Schengen is that it almost removed the need to show passport while crossing borders inside EU.
