LA times rapporterar att Visa Waiver program kan avvecklas för samtliga 38 länder. Nu kommer det att krävas personlig intervju för att få tillstånd för inresa till USA

"The order goes beyond the Muslim world, however, creating new restrictions on visitors from some of America’s closest allies. It would suspend the visa waiver program — used by citizens from 38 countries, including most European countries, Australia, Japan and Chile — that grants citizens of those countries a 90-day tourist visa after they submit their biographical information to a screening check. The new policy would require in-person interviews for most citizens from those countries."

Det verkar ha varit felaktiga uppgifter. Det ska vara "visa interview waiver" som det handlar om, inte "visa waiver" som används av turister.

The Los Angeles Times earlier reported the US was planning to suspend what it called the visa waiver programme, which would include any visitor to the US, including holidaymakers. That caused a scare that all Kiwis travelling to the US would have to undergo an interview.

The current visa waiver program allows New Zealanders and citizens from 37 other countries a 90-day tourist visa to easily enter the US by simply submitting biographical information online. However, it is now understood that this will not be affected.
