Som svensk så får man vara i Vietnam upp till 15 dagar utan visum. Jag tror inte att det spelar någon roll om man kommer landvägen eller med flyg.

Conditions for visa exemption

Citizens of Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway will be exempted from entry visa to Vietnam if:

The intended period of stay is up to 15 days;
The travelers hold valid passports of the above countries, with validity of at least 3 months from the intended date of entry into Vietnam;
The traveler possesses, and could present upon request, a valid outbound ticket from Vietnam within 15 days of the arriving date;
The traveler has not been banned from entering Vietnam.
Other travelers should apply for visas with the Vietnam Embassy as usual before leaving their home country.

Note:

The final decision to allow a person without a visa to enter Vietnam will be taken by the immigration authority upon arrival, based on the authority's judgments of the documents and information then presented.
Due to the fact that this visa exemption rule is relatively new, the traveler may experience difficulties boarding on some airlines other than Vietnam Airlines who will require a Vietnam entry visa be presented before boarding a flight to Vietnam. The Vietnam authority has informed all major airlines of the new rules and hope that the problems will soon disappear, however if the traveler encounter such problem, please be patient and explain the new rule to the airliner's staffs.
Travelers who intend to be in Vietnam for under 15 days but wish to have the visa can still apply for it and will generally be granted a 1 month tourist visa.

I Hanoi så finns det en del att göra.
Man kan besöka krigsmuseum samt en del andra. Det är dock inte lika bra musuem som krigsmuseumet i Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minhs mausoleum finns att besöka också men har begränsade öppettider.
Ganska nära maosoleuet finns en staty av Lenin. Där brukar undgomar åka skateboard på kvällen.
En väldigt bra och rolig vattendocksteater är värt ett besök tycker jag nog.

Om man är i Hanoi så får man absolut inte missa Halong bay. Sjukt vackert! Finns en massa olika båtturer på en och två nätter. Jag tog bara en natt men det räckte absolut för mig.
Väldigt varierande prisklasser.

Ganska nära Hanoi ligger Bai Bang. Vet inte om det är så häftigt att se.

Finns en massa marknader att gå på, bra uteliv, dock tycker jag Ho Chi Minh var bättre.

Sedan finns det en massa andra städer att se om man känner att man har tid.
Nah trang, Hoi an, Phu quoc och Sapa.
