isnt it possible to just turn to a law student and ask him/her to be your representative at court?
If the choise is between private lawyer for 1500 and fine for 800...I really dont see the point in actually asking :/

The difference is that a lawyer could get one or more charged removed. And maybe even reduce the fine to either a lower amount through negotiation. Or maybe he could convince the judge to just give me a small fine and some community service. Yeh, hope I'll get a kind judge. Kind a depends on that I think
