"Acting Police superintendent, four deputies, removed and transferred from position over alleged dereliction of duties.
Chonburi's police Chief has removed Pattaya Acting superintendent police col. Pongphan Wongmaneethet and four of the top deputy leadership of Pattaya Police station as of this morning. They have been transferred pending an investigation.
The move comes following a raid by the Department of Provincial Affairs and a special task force on the Coming Bar in Central Pattaya on Monday afternoon. The raid came as a tip from the watchdog Ronnasit foundation in Bangkok which is devoted to stopping human trafficking and providing assistance to the under privileged.
The Banglamung district chief has ordered the closure of the bar for five years.
The bar, which is foreign owned by a consortium of Chinese and Taiwanese owners, is accused of alleged evidence of prostitution and having a 17 year old girl working at the establishment.
The foreign owners are reportedly according to the police being deported and blacklisted.
This is the second Pattaya Police Chief transferred in less then two months. Of note, the team that conducted this particular raid is primarily composed of the same team members that conducted the raid on the Brazil Pub and 90s club that caused the transfer of the prior police chief and his deputies.
The current superintendent removed is the same person in the photo smiling above according to Thai Visa. The photo was taken when the city donated 5000 baht a few days prior to the family of a deceased Russian national who was hit by a speeding motorbike crossing the road in Jomtien.
The photo op was widely criticized on Thai social media as unnecessary.
Additionally, Mr. Pongphan was also the superintendent who led the much discussed inspection of Walking Street two weeks prior where he openly stated there was no evidence of prostitution in Pattaya or on Walking street. The statement led to many on social media disagreeing."
